As the weather is getting warmer, our bodies tend to crave lighter foods. Smoothies are a great grab-and-go breakfast that you can easily pack with protein, vegetables and other nutrients. Here are our top 5 smoothie recipes to promote health and weight loss as we enter into the warmer spring months.
Note: To increase your protein intake, you can add 1/2 cup plain Greek yogurt or 1 scoop of protein powder to your favourite smoothie. You'll see some notes below on how to increase protein in these 5 smoothies.
Tangy Raspberry Protein Smoothie
Ingredients:
- 1/2 cup frozen raspberries
- 1/2 cup plain Greek yogurt
- 1 cup unsweetened almond milk (or liquid of choice) plus water to thin (if necessary)
- 2 tbsp unsweetened shredded coconut flakes
- Small handful of baby spinach
- Ice cubes
- Optional booster: add 1 scoop of protein powder for an extra boost of protein
Directions:
Add all ingredients to a high power blender and blend until smooth. Add water to thin out the consistency if desired. Enjoy!
Refreshing Lemon Turmeric Drink
Ingredients:
- 1 cup of cold water
- Juice of 1/2 lemon
- 1/4 tsp ground turmeric
- Sprinkle of ground ginger
- Sprinkle of cinnamon
- 1 tbsp honey or stevia (optional, for sweetness)
- Ice cubes
- Optional booster: 1 scoop of collagen or 1 scoop of unflavoured protein powder
Directions:
Blend all ingredients (except ice) in a blender until smooth. Pour into a glass, top with ice and another sprinkle of cinnamon. Enjoy!
Strawberry Basil Smoothie
Ingredients:
- 1/2 frozen banana
- 1/2 cup frozen strawberries
- 1 cup unsweetened almond milk (or another plant-based milk)
- 1/4 cup apple cider
- 1 tsp fresh lime juice
- 1 tbsp ground flax seeds
- 3 basil leaves
- Ice cubes
- Optional booster: 1 scoop of collagen or 1 scoop of unflavoured protein powder
Directions:
Blend all ingredients in a blender until smooth. Pour into a glass and top with more ice if desired. Enjoy!
Tropical Twist Protein Smoothie
Ingredients:
- 1/2 cup plain Greek yogurt
- 4 chunks of frozen banana
- 4 chunks of frozen pineapple
- 3 chunks of frozen mango cubes
- 1/4 cup frozen strawberries
- 1/2 cup coconut water
- Ice cubes
- Optional booster: 1 scoop of vanilla protein powder (or plain protein powder of choice)
Directions:
Add all ingredients to a blender and blend on high until smooth. Add water to thin if necessary. Pour into a glass and enjoy!
Blueberry Banana Protein Smoothie
Ingredients:
- 1/2 frozen banana
- 2 tbsp natural almond butter (or nut butter of choice)
- 1/4 cup frozen blueberries
- 1 tbsp ground flax seeds
- 1/2 cup unsweetened almond milk (or plant-based milk of choice)
- 1/2 cup plain Greek yogurt (or 1 scoop vanilla protein powder)
- Ice cubes
- Optional booster: top with a sprinkle of unsweetened shredded coconut
Directions:
Add ingredients to a blender and blend until desired consistency is reached. Thin with water if necessay. Pour into a glass and enjoy!
